Welcome to 6th East Grinstead (Moat Church) Scout Group
The 6th East Grinstead (Moat Church) Scout Group was formed in 1970 and now has three Sections, Beaver Scouts (Age 6 - 8) Cub Scouts (Age 8 to 10½) and Scouts (Age 10½ to 14). At 14 the young people move to one of the District Explorer Scout Units. The Beavers Colony and Cub Pack meet on Monday and the Scout Troop on Tuesday.
Our group is one of nine that make up the East Grinstead District. The Group is managed by Simon Parrett who is the Group Scout Leader, supported by an Executive Committee. The main aim of this committee is to ensure that the Sections have enough funds to provide good quality Scouting, this is done through fund raising and social events.
Our Group is sponsored by Moat United Reformed Church who allow us to use the halls and onsite gear store without being formally charged for its use. We do however make a contribution towards the running costs. In return every member of the Group is expected to attend Church Parade, which is held four times a year, this can contribute towards part of the Faith Badge.
Subscriptions
The subscriptions for the year September to July are Beaver Scouts £90.00, Cub Scouts and Scouts £96.00. This can be paid annually or termly. There is a 5% discount for the second and subsequent child. This pays for Head Quarters fees including insurance for your child whilst on Scouting activities, insurance on the equipment we own and for the day-to-day running of the Sections.
We operate the HMRC Gift Aid scheme which allow us to reclaim the tax you have paid on the subscriptions, last year this amounted to over £500. There is also a one off Investiture charge of £10.00.
Helping
There is a parent rota operating in both the Beaver Colony and Cub Pack. In the Scout section there is no formal rota but parents are asked to help with transport to events or sharing their skills. If you enjoy helping and think that you would like to help more regularly, the Group is always looking for more Leaders and Helpers, giving a choice of regular or occasional commitment.
Please contact the Section Leader or the Group Scout Leader for more information. The more Leaders and Helpers we have the less work is placed on any individual and the more members we can have and the more activities we can do to get the “OUT” in Scouting.
CRB Forms
We ask every parent to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form when their child joins the Group.
